ISO 12233:2023 eSFR Test Chart

The ColorSpace ISO 12233:2023 eSFR Test Chart is designed for Spatial Frequency Response (SFR) testing of digital cameras and imaging systems. It follows the e-SFR test method specified in ISO 12233:2023.


Spatial Frequency Response (SFR) describes an imaging system's response to image information at different spatial frequencies. It is an important parameter for evaluating the spatial resolution and overall imaging performance of digital imaging systems.

ISO 12233:2023 specifies methods for evaluating the resolution and spatial frequency response of electronic still picture imaging systems. The e-SFR method in this edition uses a four-cycle slanted star test pattern. By analyzing the edge response within the slanted-star regions, spatial frequency response information can be obtained at different positions and orientations across the image field.

The ColorSpace ISO 12233:2023 e-SFR Test Chart incorporates nine standard slanted-star test regions for e-SFR measurements at different image-field positions.

Two versions are available with 4:1 and 6:1 edge reflectance ratios, corresponding to CS-TC009 and CS-TC009-R, respectively.

Captured test images can be analyzed using image quality analysis software such as Imatest Master and CS-CIQT General Edition for e-SFR, SFR, MTF, and related image quality measurements.

Test Setup and Use

01|Test Conditions:

For e-SFR testing, set appropriate working distance, field of view, illumination conditions, and exposure parameters according to the camera and test system being evaluated.

02|Test Chart Illumination:

Ensure that the test chart surface is uniformly illuminated during testing. Avoid direct light entering the camera lens and minimize the effects of ambient stray light and unwanted reflections on the measurement results.

03|Image Capture:

When capturing test images, avoid significant overexposure, underexposure, or cropping of the test chart.After image acquisition, use image quality analysis software such as the Imatest eSFR ISO module to process the test image and analyze the e-SFR results.
