From AI cameras to smart transportation applications, imaging products need to perform under changing lighting conditions, moving targets and different operating environments. A testing laboratory therefore needs to evaluate not only image quality under static conditions, but also imaging performance during motion.
Recently, ColorSpace completed the setup of a smart security testing laboratory for MK Vision Joint Stock Company (MK Vision), a Vietnamese smart security company. The project included equipment installation, commissioning and on-site training.
A member of Vietnam-based MK Group, MK Vision develops products and solutions including DMS, V-ANPR, mobile enforcement devices, Edge AI smart cameras and smart transportation systems. The laboratory project focused on optical and image quality verification, as well as motion imaging testing.
01 | Image Quality Needs to Be Evaluated Under Realistic Conditions
For AI cameras and smart transportation imaging products, operating conditions are rarely static.
Lighting conditions can change, targets can move, and vehicles or road objects may travel at relatively high speeds. During product development and performance verification, it is therefore important to evaluate not only image quality under static conditions, but also imaging performance under different motion conditions.
Motion blur and image performance during motion were among the testing requirements addressed by the MK Vision laboratory project.
By configuring appropriate test equipment and laboratory conditions, the laboratory provides corresponding test conditions for product development and performance verification.
02 | Building the Laboratory Around Testing Requirements
The project focused primarily on optical and image quality testing and motion imaging testing.
During the laboratory planning stage, ColorSpace considered MK Vision's product development scenarios and testing requirements when configuring the laboratory environment and related test equipment.
After the equipment was delivered, ColorSpace engineers completed on-site installation and commissioning. The equipment was configured according to the intended testing workflow so that it could be put into practical use for R&D and testing.
The motion imaging testing setup can support motion blur testing at speeds of up to 320 km/h, providing corresponding test conditions for products involving vehicles, road targets and other high-speed moving objects.
From laboratory environment configuration to equipment installation and commissioning, the project was developed around the customer's actual testing requirements.
03 | From Equipment Installation to Practical Use
Completing equipment installation and commissioning is only part of establishing a new testing laboratory.
For a laboratory to support ongoing R&D activities, engineers also need to understand how the equipment and software should be operated and how testing workflows are carried out.
As part of this project, ColorSpace engineers conducted on-site equipment and software training for the MK Vision team.
The training was based on the equipment installed at the site and actual testing procedures. The engineers explained equipment operation, software usage and testing workflows, while also discussing and addressing questions that arose during practical operation.
Following two days of on-site communication and training, the MK Vision team gained a further understanding of the relevant equipment and software workflows, and the laboratory's testing equipment was progressively incorporated into its R&D and testing activities.
The cooperation with MK Vision represents a practical project in ColorSpace's overseas laboratory setup and testing services for the smart security sector.
Laboratory development involves more than installing testing equipment. It also requires the testing environment and equipment configuration to be aligned with the customer's products, R&D activities and verification requirements.
ColorSpace will continue to provide testing and verification services in areas including image quality testing, motion imaging testing, automated testing and laboratory setup, supporting customers across different application fields according to their specific R&D and testing requirements.
