As new materials go viral on streaming platforms, their market life cycles are increasingly compressed—from explosive emergence to rapid fade within just months. This trend-driven phenomenon is reshaping the entire cycle from innovation to CMF (Color, Material & Finish) realization. The traditional experience-based CMF iteration model now faces an urgent challenge: how to digitally coordinate the full process from design, material selection, production, to quality control? This is becoming the key to breaking the industry's "speed bottleneck."
Recently, the "Color Stylist CMF Digital Design Application Forum" and the Standard Launch Event for Digital Color Management of Sustainable Fashion Textiles were held in Beijing. The conference brought together industry experts, academics, and corporate leaders to explore innovative applications of color stylists in CMF digital design and to promote unified standards in sustainable color management.
Wang Miao, Vice President of the China Fashion & Color Association (CFCA), presented the core content of the standard and introduced plans to revise the profession’s criteria.Recognized as an official occupation (code 4-08-08-04) since 2007, the Color Stylist role focuses on trend research, color design, and visual expression. A four-level professional certification system is currently in place.

In 2025, a task force will be launched to revise the certification framework by 2026, incorporating modules on digital design and CMF practice, with updates to training materials, evaluation systems, and instructor development.
Associate Professor Wang Mengmeng from Jiangnan University shared the lab’s advancements in multi-dimensional data collection, intelligent CMF development, and high-fidelity rendering.

At the event, ColorSpace unveiled its latest True Color Digital CMF Solution, which enables accurate color capture and rendering of various materials under standard lighting conditions.
Demonstration of the True Color Digital CMF Solution:
● Real-World to Screen Color Consistency
The solution demonstrates how material colors appear under standard lighting compared to their on-screen display. With professional calibration hardware and software, screens can accurately reproduce real-world colors. This addresses long-standing discrepancies between physical samples and digital visuals, giving designers a more reliable reference for color decisions.
● Cross-Device Color Consistency
The demonstration showcased consistent color performance across multiple displays with identical color settings. By integrating color management software and calibration tools, the system ensures accurate color matching between devices, minimizing deviations caused by hardware differences and enhancing team collaboration and remote design workflows.
● Calibrated vs. Uncalibrated Screen Comparison
A side-by-side comparison between calibrated and uncalibrated screens vividly illustrates the importance of display calibration. Calibrated monitors deliver more accurate color rendering, reducing visual discrepancies and significantly improving color reliability in both design and manufacturing phases.
● Three Emerging Trends in CMF Design: Real-Time, Intelligent, and GlobalizedAs industrial internet platforms continue to evolve, three key trends are shaping the future of CMF design:
· IoT sensors enable real-time collection of end-user color preferences, feeding data back to accelerate iterative design.
· AI-driven software can automatically generate CMF schemes based on available materials and production capabilities, enabling design-to-production integration.
· Geographic barriers are breaking down, allowing for precise color synchronization across global supply chains.
● Advancing Professional Growth and Standard Adoption
The successful forum provided a valuable platform for integrating the Color Stylist profession with digital CMF design. It also facilitated the broader dissemination and adoption of the Digital Color Management Standards for Sustainable Fashion Textiles, playing a significant role in promoting innovation and sustainable progress across the industry.
