Deepening Industry–Education Integration | ColorSpace and Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic Jointly Establish a Professional Imaging Laboratory

ColorSpace has established a strategic industry–education partnership with the School of Optoelectronic Information at Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic. As part of this collaboration, a professional imaging laboratory built by ColorSpace has been completed and officially put into operation.

During the construction of the laboratory, ColorSpace leveraged its extensive technical expertise and industry experience in image quality testing to equip the facility with a complete set of professional testing instruments and standardized application systems. These systems support full-process evaluation of key imaging performance indicators such as image resolution, color reproduction, and grayscale levels, covering major image quality inspection scenarios in the optoelectronic industry. The laboratory also provides practical hardware support for both theoretical teaching and hands-on training in related academic programs.

Based on this laboratory platform, the School of Optoelectronic Information at Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic will introduce specialized courses related to image quality testing. The program adopts a “theory + practical training” teaching model, enabling students to master core image quality testing techniques and operational methods in environments closely aligned with real industrial scenarios. This approach helps bridge the gap between traditional classroom learning and industry practice, enhancing students’ job readiness and competitiveness in the imaging technology sector.

1 | Industry Demand Driving Educational Transformation: Image Quality Testing Education Becomes an Emerging Trend

The establishment of the professional imaging laboratory at Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic represents not only a single institution’s academic initiative but also reflects a broader trend in China’s vocational education system as it aligns with the evolving needs of the imaging industry. This transformation is driven by both growing industry demand for skilled professionals and ongoing educational reform.

On the industry side, the rapid advancement of digitalization and intelligent technologies has made image quality testing and optimization essential capabilities in sectors such as consumer electronics, security and surveillance, medical imaging, automotive imaging, and industrial inspection. Meanwhile, emerging applications including smart cities and intelligent driving are further driving demand for specialized professionals such as image quality testing engineers and ISP tuning engineers.

However, the industry currently faces a shortage of multidisciplinary technical professionals. Many companies encounter challenges such as limited job readiness among applicants and extended onboarding periods. As a result, there is an increasing demand for professionals who combine strong theoretical knowledge, hands-on technical skills, and familiarity with industry standards.

This industry trend has already been validated through professional program development at multiple institutions in China. A representative example is the long-term collaboration between Shenzhen Polytechnic University and ColorSpace, which has become a benchmark case for industry–education integration in the imaging field.

As a leading vocational education institution in China, Shenzhen Polytechnic University identified the growing demand for imaging professionals as early as 2015. Based on the development of its Digital Image Information Processing Technology program, the university initiated a strategic collaboration with ColorSpace to cultivate talent in image quality testing and ISP tuning.

Starting with the joint establishment of a professional image quality testing laboratory, the two parties launched an “Industry–Education Integration Base”. After nearly a decade of collaboration, they have jointly developed a mature and comprehensive educational framework：

· A complete curriculum system covering both foundational knowledge and advanced practical training. The jointly authored textbook Digital Image Quality Testing was selected as part of the institution’s “14th Five-Year Plan” teaching materials and incorporated into the National Vocational Education Teaching Resource Platform.

· An innovative dual-mentor teaching model in which senior engineers from ColorSpace serve as guest professors, integrating the latest industry standards and technical requirements directly into classroom teaching.

· A full-scenario practical training system that enables students to participate in real imaging testing projects associated with leading companies such as Huawei, OPPO, and Sony, helping cultivate professionals suited for industry roles.
